Marianne Siddons Heginworth

Today I’m in conversation with Marianne Siddons Heginworth - therapist, ceremonialist, somatic practitioner, and long-time guide of the imaginal, archetypal, and wild relational landscapes.

Marianne trained as a dramatherapist over 25 years ago, and her path since then has been one of deep service - to those at the end of life, to those grieving, and to those longing to return to the earth and to themselves.

She has worked extensively in that time with those at the end of life and through the death process and with bereavement, creating ceremony for both those left behind and those journeying on. She offers wild- located grief tending ceremonies, ancestral healing rituals and rite of passage work. Her offering encompasses the wilds, plant allies especially the trees and draws on the spirit of natural locations and natural themes working in wild places and with our innate wildness and the cycle of life and death. This sounds grand, and it is, as well as being every day, quiet, ordinary extraordinary-ness.

She works one-to-one creatively and therapeutically, and with couples in search of deeper intimacy and deeper accountability in relating to ourselves and all of life. She apprentices with two 'shamanic' lineages, and within trauma and somatic trainings. She still is a part of women’s Initiatory journeys with her teacher Elisabeth Serra.

She co-pioneered Environmental Arts therapy in the UK with her husband Ian Siddons Heginworth 25 years ago and currently runs The Circle of Trees Specialist Practitioner course initiating and supporting facilitators to deepen their relationship to themselves within the greater ecology of life so they can bring more of this to their offerings.  The cycle of teachings begins in November when the new seeds fall into the compost of the old leaves. This journey supports people who want to take their work outdoors and bring wildness in.

Marianne also leads The Secret Storytelling theatre company - creating theatre therapeutically.

In this episode, we dive into:

In this episode, we explore resourcing, emotional intimacy, nature connection, and the inner work of healing - including an inquiry into masculine and feminine qualities -  expressed in the following key reflections:

  • Experiencing our first ever in-person recording, which brought a deeper sense of presence and connection
  • Exploring the importance of resourcing before meeting painful or vulnerable parts of ourselves
  • Understanding how resourcing creates safety and capacity without bypassing what’s truly present
  • Grounding through the body, especially into the pelvis, as a foundation for nervous system regulation
  • Using imagination to connect with archetypes, elemental allies, or inner protectors as supportive resources
  • Separating parts of the self in order to identify needs and nurture an inner parent
  • Balancing heart and will—learning to root and feel deeply while staying clear, steady and present
  • Reflecting on masculine and feminine energies as dynamic inner forces rather than fixed gender roles
  • Questioning cultural stereotypes and affirming emotional depth, power and sensitivity as human qualities
  • Parenting with honesty and presence, offering emotional language and space for truth
  • Naming the pressures of overculture and the courage it takes to speak and live from the heart
  • Working with the Celtic tree calendar to align internal experience with the cycles of the year
  • Honouring trees like Rowan as guides in times of descent, grief, and quiet transformation
  • Returning to the body and the earth as resources that allow us to meet life with intimacy and integrity
